
Rules & Regulations
1.0 Eligibility

Universiti Malaya Civil Engineering Competition 2026: EcoGregate Bowl is open to all polytechnics and undergraduate students of higher learning institutions.

A team of participants must consist of four (4) to five (5) students in polytechnics or universities.

A student must not be a member of more than one team.
-
All members of a given team must be from the same institution.
-
The maximum number of teams from the same institution is two (2) teams.
-
Each team may be accompanied by one (1) supervising advisor but the advisor is not allowed to help the team during the presentation.

A similar mix design is strictly prohibited for teams from the same institution.
-
Teams from the same institution must use distinct ingredient proportions, water-cement ratios, admixtures, aggregate types, and target performance.
2.0 Registration Rules

Participants can register through this Google Form.
-
The participants shall receive the confirmation email within three working days.
-
Registration date: 1 December 2025 - 4 January 2026
-
Registration fee: RM300 (local) / USD100 (international)
-
The registration fee is not refundable.
3.0 Construction and Design Rules
1. Each team must submit two concrete bowling balls made of the same concrete mix design.
2. One concrete ball shall be used for both the compressive strength test and the bowling session, while
another shall be used for the booth presentation.
3. The bowling ball must be made of green and eco-friendly aggregates.
4. Each team's concrete bowling balls must meet all requirements.
5. Only two concrete bowling balls are allowed during the competition.
6. The concrete bowling balls must be presented during the registration.
7. Each team should prepare the materials listed below:
i) Report*
ii) Concrete mix design*
ii) A presentation video**
iv) Slide presentation ***
v) Poster​

8. In the event of any false declaration of information by participants, the organizing committee reserves the final decision right to
withdraw the participation of the teams.​

3.1 Materials to be Used
-
The replacement or incorporation of construction and demolition waste as aggregate of concrete mixture, such as crushed aggregate, recycled brick aggregate in the concrete mix is ENCOURAGED.

The aggregate must be green and eco-friendly.

Supplementary cementitious materials may also be used.

The mix design is at the discretion of the ball's creators ! Be creative: this is an engineering competition !​

All materials used in the concrete mixture must be declared in the presentation and the purpose of the material used in the concrete mix design should be provided.

Materials or ingredients that are specified in the prohibited list SHOULD NOT be added into your concrete mix design under any circumstances.
4.0 Scoring Criteria

The competition scoring criteria are divided into six (6) parts:

10-pin bowling score (15%)
-
Concrete performance (25%)
-
Video and Oral Presentation (15%)
-
Report (25%)
-
Booth showcase (10%)​

Finishing (10%)

The team's concrete bowling ball that does not meet the specified diameter measurements will incur a deduction of marks.

The entry requirement will be verified by the committee members during the registration.

The decision of the panel of judges shall be final.
